This was brought about, in particular, by the fact that the former standardized system of school instruction came to be stratified into a number of different types and kinds. New pedagogical principles (focus on abilities and talents) and the organization of educational process (differentiation into strong, medium and weak classes - called in different ways, profiling and specialization schools) led to the fact that the mechanism of social selection of students began to manifest, and schools (classes) for mass education, schools with privileges in education and elite schools formed.
