Abstract

The radical changes in economic, political and social relations taking place in the country are increasingly actualizing the problems of social protection of low-income segments of the population. the relevance of the topic is caused by the tendency to worsen the standard of living of the majority of the population and its provision with the most necessary things. It is noted that the widespread fall in living standards of the General population, rising unemployment, increasing social differentiation, as well as a significant increase in recent years in the number of citizens living below the poverty line, requires a radical review and change of priorities of state social policy, development and implementation of innovative approaches not only in addressing the obstacles to achieve the optimal welfare of citizens, but also the organization of timely targeted assistance to needy citizens. However, according to the calculations of a number of experts, the measures taken by the Russian authorities to provide social support to the population during the COVID-19 pandemic will still be able to reduce the level of poverty in the country.
