It is shown that there is a demographic potential and an interest of Vietnamese business in developing ties with the Russian Far East, but at the same time there are significant institutional and infrastructural barriers that prevent the full potential of Vietnamese migration for the development of the Far Eastern territories. Some results of an expert survey conducted by the author of the article among scientists, researchers, as well as representatives of government authorities and business structures in the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District and a number of regions of Vietnam are presented.
