The scientific novelty of the research and its results consists in the combination of geo - and socio-spatial approaches to the study of the attitude to the health of various social groups of northerners, the analysis of their specifics in the Arctic conditions. The base region for the study was the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (YANAO), which is typical for the Russian Arctic, where the health system has both some positive results and unresolved issues in the health care of northerners. The possibilities of its further improvement based on sociological and interdisciplinary research from a systemic perspective are shown, bearing in mind that its main resources are lifestyle, nutrition, quality medical care, and the ecological environment. At the same time, the situation significantly differs in large and small cities of the Arctic, villages and shift settlements, among nomads in the tundra. The materials of statistics, mass representative surveys and expert assessments in their comparison are analyzed. The presented research results illustrate the identified opportunities for improving the health of different groups of the Arctic population and lead to the conclusion that it is necessary to significantly strengthen the comprehensive scientific support for Arctic projects, including sociological monitoring.
