Based on the analysis of the data of sociological polls, the author analyzes the place of the idea of justice in the public consciousness of modern Russians. Based on the materials of sociological research, it is specified what semantic meanings are most often attributed to the concept of justice in Russian society, using the example of semantic connotations that have taken shape in this term in Russia. Justice, as a moral and ethical category, acts in society as an all-encompassing concept that sanctifies, sanctions relations between people and, at the same time, plays an important role in the moral and psychological substantiation of the actions of individuals in the process of their coexistence within a single social space. The notions of justice prevailing in the mass consciousness significantly affect the system of social relations, and largely determine the dominant vector of its development.
