Abstract

The article presents the key aspects of the demographic development of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug in the context of the socio-economic situation of the region. There was given the analysis of historical prerequisites of modern problems of spatial development and transformation of the settlement system. The demographic state of the region is considered, and the results of the study of the migration attitudes of the residents of Chukotka are presented. In the conditions of the need to develop promising fields of the Chukotka Autonomous Region, the most important role is played by labor resources. Despite the widespread development of shift employment in the region, the problem of population outflow persists. Infrastructure development and wage increases remain key issues of socio- economic development. International labor migration could be an important problem for Chukotka. In the conditions of a shortage of labor resources, the forced transition to the use of foreign workers in the future will stimulate the outflow of the local population and reduce the attractiveness of working specialties for shift-based citizens of the Russian Federation.
