Abstract

The article examines the problem of interethnic relations in Russia, as one of the most relevant and discussed in modern humanitarian discourse, not only in our country, but also abroad. The processes of strengthening the country’s security are inextricably linked with the building and maintenance of positive interethnic relations among the citizens of Russia. The results of recent studies of the public opinion of Russians indicate a decrease in the growth of interethnic tension and the number of interethnic conflicts. Nevertheless, this direction of state and civil efforts is still relevant for modern multinational, multi-confessional and multicultural Russia. Considering interethnic conflicts in the context of a wide list of possible social threats in modern conditions, the authors demonstrate how the problem of interethnic relations is articulated in the public opinion of Russians and how it is assessed by the expert community. The analysis was based on the results of the sociological survey “Monitoring public opinion of the population regarding current sociocultural threats” conducted by the Center for Sociological Research of the Russian State Humanitarian University in 2019, and the data of the Monitoring “How are you, Russia?” (1992–2020), conducted by the Center for Strategic Social and Political Research of the ISPR FCTAS RAS with the participation of the authors.
