Abstract

In the 2020-2021 academic year, almost 35% of all higher education students in Russia studied by correspondence. Will the economic crisis make distance learning in universities more popular? It is clear that there will be even fewer students who can only afford to study without working. Should we expect a new wave of popularity of correspondence programs and in what specialties? We offer the answers of a sociologist who in 2018–2020 studied the topic in detail in the research project “Part-time students and graduates of higher education in the field of education and the labor market” (supported by the RFBR).
