During the last almost 30 years in Russia. Russia has seen a trend of centripetal migration movements of the population, depleting the socio-economic environment of the regions of departure. The authors attempt to identify the key factors that influence an individual when making a decision to migrate. For this purpose we have carried out Comparative analysis of three social groups under study: native Muscovites, migrant Muscovites, and residents of the cities of the Volga region. A set of questions concerning aspects of the respondents' employment, labor market situation in the regions under consideration with a breakdown by sectors of economy, self-assessment of real purchasing power of the population, assessment of current and prospective financial situation of the population are considered.As a result of comparative analysis, in the final part of the article the key determinants, influencing the direction and intensity of migration processes in Volga-Moscow direction
