The authors consider potentially the most critical and longterm problems of modern secondary general education in the modern period. Among the most important problems, the authors identify the shortage of qualified teachers, recognize individual shortcomings in their training and note some measures that could improve the situation in this matter in the short and long term. The importance of a systematic analysis of problems in the public education system and the adoption of timely measures aimed at their comprehensive solution is pointed out. The principal role of secondary education in the preparation of Russian youth capable of successfully competing in the international, globalized labor market is emphasized.
