Abstract

The Arctic region of the Russian Federation has been undergoing a large number of climatic transformations for 30 years. Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and the Russian Federation is one of the most affected countries. Scientists have proven that warming in the Arctic occurs two to three times faster than in other regions of the world. The consequences of this phenomenon may be the disappearance of various species of flora and fauna, the destruction of vital infrastructure and, most critically, the threat to the existence of small peoples of this region, the stability of their livelihoods and way of life. The purpose of this work is to study the current situation in the Arctic region of the Russian Federation, as well as to identify global environmental changes such as, for example, the liberation of the Arctic Ocean from most of the long-term ice cover. A forecast will also be given regarding the development of the climate situation and all possible threats following these climatic transformations in this Russian region will be analyzed. In addition, due to the current geopolitical situation, the actions of the Russian Federation in the short term will be described.
