Based on the materials of the FADN–VTSIOM 2019 study. And with the involvement of expert survey data, the meanings of the all-Russian civic identity and its variability in various demographic, socio-professional environments are considered. As the results of the survey show, the all-Russian identity is mainly state-civil, and this is manifested primarily in its function of integrating a multi-ethnic society. About a third of the respondents' Russian identity is filled mainly with ideas about the common historical past and culture, holidays, customs. About a third of respondents are people who feel responsible for the affairs in the country. The indicator of civil attitudes of Russian identity is not only responsibility for the fate of the country, but also, to a certain extent, loyalty to constitutional norms. The Russian identity is formed not only by the state, but also by the efforts of society itself. At the same time, discursive practices about the content of the Russian community and the real ideas of Russians about what unites them with Russian citizens often diverge.
