The subject of the study is the following indicators: coverage of the population entitled to state-funded medical services; the range of medical services included in the package of state guarantees; and indicators of financial protection. The obtained results of the study allow us to come to the following conclusions. Medical care in Russia covers almost the entire population of the country. But the analysis carried out shows that the basic package of medical services provided by the program of state guarantees does not fully meet the needs of the population in medical care. The indicators of financial protection in Russia look quite satisfactory, the catastrophic costs are not so great. The role of public spending on medical care in maintaining the health of Russian citizens is considered.
