Abstract

The Department for Publish­ing Programs at the Russian Public Opin­ion Research Center (VCIOM) is preparing for publication a book by Jiří Šubrt and Denis Podvoyskiy “Contemporary Socio­logical Theories: How Not to Get Lost in the Conceptual Labyrinth?”. The Moni­toring of Public Opinion: Economic and Social Changes Journal presents a book fragment devoted to the work of eminent Russian and American sociologist Pitirim A. Sorokin. Not claiming to describe So­rokin’s ‘theoretical synthesis’ in its en­tirety, the author of this essay aims at identifying and characterizing the gen­eral line of Sorokin’s ideological evolu­tion from the starting neopositivist atti­tudes of the Russian period to the field of culture analysis.
