Abstract

Migration behaviour - actual movements from one place to another, as well as potential readiness (migration attitudes) to change the place of residence for the sake of studies, new jobs, better living conditions, etc. - is an important, but still poorly studied characteristic of Russian professionals. Possession of high human capital increases the ability of representatives of this professional group to move from one place of residence to another, allows them to get better education and jobs, and reduces their dependence on the level of economic development of their region. This chapter examines the extent to which their behaviour is characterised by active territorial mobility, and the extent to which such mobility helps to solve the nationwide problem of the skills mismatch.
