Asymmetric trends in the development of interregional migration flows were identified, characterized by high migration loss for a significant part of the country’s regions. The migration decline of the population leads to negative socio-economic and demographic consequences for the regions of Russia, slows down economic development, “washes out” labour resources from the labour market, primarily qualified and highly qualified. Russian regions that are losing their population in general and in particular young generation, are losing not only human capital, but also intellectual resources, and also progressive energy and social optimism for their development. The article presents calculations of the intensity coefficients of migration ties for the subjects of the Federation and considers the main directions of migration exchange at the regional level. Based on the data of migration growth (loss), a typology of regions has been developed depending on the effectiveness and nature of migration exchange, and “attractor regions” and “donor regions” in the flows of interregional migration have been identified.
