Abstract

This article examines the features of the daily life of older women during the COVID-19 pandemic in urban and rural areas. The empirical basis of the study was made up of semi-structured interviews with older women from the city of federal significance (St. Petersburg) and villages of the Republic of Karelia. A total of 40 interviews were collected. As part of the thematic analysis of narratives in the interview, the key features of the daily life of older women during the pandemic are outlined, the influence of restrictions and isolation on sexual discrimination is indicated, employment prospects for older people are outlined, the peculiarities of their interaction with doctors and medical personnel in general are revealed. As part of the study, it was found that older women from a large federal city are most discriminated against. In turn, women from rural areas during the COVID-19 pandemic were less discriminated against due to various restrictions. The study also concluded about the importance of information technology training for older women, about the need to improve employment as an area that can overcome limitations and promote the development of activity of older women to ensure their integration into social life after the pandemic
