Abstract

The article discusses the perceptions of students from leading universities in Yaroslavl regarding the development of the city's infrastructure, as well as the comfort level and amenities of the neighborhoods where they live. It was found that the positive image of Yaroslavl among the students is primarily built on its historical significance and cultural potential. Despite the fact that the city's rich history and cultural heritage continue to evoke positive associations among the youth, modern Yaroslavl faces difficulties in maintaining a favorable image. A significant portion of the students perceive Yaroslavl as a provincial and lackluster city. Differences in the city's image assessments between students who came to Yaroslavl from small towns and villages, and students who are native residents of Yaroslavl were identified: the former rate the city's image much more positively. The survey results showed significant dissatisfaction among students with some aspects of the urban environment. A lack of development in the city's infrastructure was identified, in particular, a significant gap between the existing sports and entertainment infrastructure and the needs and preferences of the residents, especially among the student population. Negative aspects of living conditions were identified: insufficient air exchange in residential premises, lack of conditions for reducing noise and air pollution, and lack of natural lighting in premises. The findings of the study emphasize the importance of including issues of infrastructure and environmental development in Yaroslavl in urban planning.
