Abstract

The prevalence of cases of alcohol poisoning including fatal ones as well as the scale of illegal alcohol-containingproducts presented on the Russian market necessitate studying this problem. The author analyzes data from specializedscientific works, statistical data and surveys on the topic under study. In Russia, experts record about 1,200 methyl alcohol poisonings every year, and the share of counterfeit alcohol on the market, on average, according to various expert estimates, is one third. The relevance of the problem under study has been revealed, a review has been made of the reasons for the prevalence of counterfeit alcohol products in the country, the state of various indicators related to alcohol consumption over time. Among the main factors contributing to the use of surrogate alcohol and, accordingly, an increase in the risk of poisoning of varying degrees of severity is the low cost of these products and the availability of their purchase at any time of the day. The measures taken by the state to counteract the use of surrogate alcohol are considered. Recommendations are given for increasing the effectiveness of the fight against illegal alcohol products.
