Abstract

The purpose of the study is to determine the main factors of attractiveness of countries for foreign tourism, differences in the perception and assessment of other countries for visiting and possible migration in the opinion of X, Y, Z-generational groups of modern Russians. The methodological basis of the study was the results of a sociological survey conducted by the team of the South-Russian Branch of the Federal Research Sociological Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2023. The sample population of the study consisted of residents of Taganrog. The classification of age groups described by V.V. Radaev became the foundation for describing generations. The revealed preferences and main motivations for traveling to different countries show that for the tourism of people of the Z-generation, a developed system of leisure, tourist and entertainment services, as well as shopping are important, for the Y-generation - the realization of labor opportunities and career prospects in addition to leisure, and for the X-generation - studying culture and interesting pastime. The data obtained during the study provide valuable information about the perception of foreign countries by representatives of different generations. Such data can demonstrate existing stereotypes and prejudices in society. Trends are also identified that expand the understanding of modern intergenerational dynamics, changing value orientations. Speaking about the practical significance of such material, the findings can help in the development of intercultural dialogue, the creation of effective public administration measures and reforms aimed at increasing the attractiveness of life in the home country.
