Abstract

The article examines the history of the economic and demographic development of the Chinese northeastern city of Dalian during the construction of the old industrial base of Dongbei and the transition and implementation of the policy of “reform and opening up”. The period of introduction of a planned economy allowed the city of Luyda (Dalian) to increase its industrial potential. The policy of reform and opening up stimulated the formation of a modern enterprise system, increased industrialization, the development of the service sector, and an increase in the city's population. The demographic development of Dalian City during the period of "reform and opening up" was influenced by the "one child" policy.
