Abstract

The arrival of migrant women from Central Asia to the Moscow region radically changes the social context of life, the lifestyle of migrant women and affects the transformation of stereotypes of gender roles in families. The purpose of the study is to determine the characteristics of attitudes towards family roles and practices among those who plan to stay in Moscow or the Moscow region, and among those who plan to return to their country of origin. In addition, the article compares family values and role attitudes with migrant men from Central Asia and women who live in Moscow or the Moscow region. The article also examines classic books on sociology and modern sociological publications and studies that analyze family values and role attitudes of migrant women. The analysis is based on the results of a questionnaire survey conducted in February — March 2023. The authors found that migration radically changes the lives of migrant families. The article proves that family values and role attitudes of migrant women are determined by the level of education and adaptation to life in Moscow or the Moscow region. Women who do not plan to return to their country of origin support equality in marriage and family relations. Migrant women are also much more tolerant of interethnic marriages. Migrant women are more likely to support the introduction of criminal liability for domestic violence.
