Abstract

This textbook presents articles containing information about prominent thinkers of Europe and North America — philosophers, theologians, historians, religious scholars, sociologists, psychologists, ethnographers who influenced the formation of social theory about religion. Each article provides a brief biography of the scientist, lists his main works, and highlights his contribution to understanding the topic. The evolution of the views of a number of scientists is noted in the course of their addressing religious studies topics during their lives and scientific work. The study of the creative heritage of thinkers is intended to help to more deeply understand the complex processes occurring in the field of religion and public life, their specific interrelation. The manual is intended for students of higher educational institutions, as well as for all those interested in the topic of religion within the framework of social theories and the sociology of religion.
