Abstract
This article analyzes the migration situation in the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District. The authors pay special attention to immigration in the regions and its impact on the size and ethno-ethnic composition of the population. The authors outline the key demographic features of the North Caucasian Federal District against the background of Russia, which are characterized by a younger age structure of the population, population growth and relatively higher total fertility rates. The authors revealed that the district lost population in migration exchange with other Russian regions, foreign countries and CIS countries. The authors determined the dynamics of the population of the North Caucasian Federal District and the change in the population due to natural and migratory growth. The authors analyzed the main flows of immigration with CIS countries and foreign countries. As a result of analyzed statistical data and scientific research, the authors conclude that in some regions of the North Caucasus, immigration can contribute to population growth, especially if migrants are of working age and create families. This is especially relevant for regions with low birth rates or high migration to other regions of Russia.
