Abstract

The Stavropol Territory has a number of features on the demographic map of Russia. In particular, in 1990s and early 2000s, during the period of active development of depopulation processes in the country, the area was one of the regions with late depopulation wave, and it was only at the beginning of the 20th century that natural population decline began to be observed on its territory.; Due to the peculiarities of the geopolitical and socio-economic situation in the country and it being the "gateway" to the Caucasus, the region acted as a powerful migration "magnet", attracting significant migration flows from neighboring regions of the North Caucasus Federal District, the countries of the South Caucasus, the northern and eastern regions of Russia, etc. The paper presents data on natural population growth in 1969-2021, data on population dynamics, fertility, migration, labor structure of the population in 2010-2023, and the specifics of demographic policy in the Stavropol Territory.
