Party “Concord” Wins Again (The Results of the Parliamentary Elections in Latvia)

Abstract

Compared with other countries, Russia has the highest length of the state borders and the largest number of neighbors. Relations with neighboring countries are a critical part of the state’s foreign policy. Latvia, like other countries of the Baltic region, is of great importance for Russia. These countries are not only Russia’s neighbors; here goes the juxtaposition of the Russian Federation and the European Union. On the basis of preliminary results of the recent parliamentary elections in Latvia, analyzed is the success of the Social Democratic Party “Concord” in the last decade as well as main factors of this success. Public resources of the party are also considered at some length, and the necessity of a permanent social monitoring of post-Soviet states is justified.
