Abstract

The monograph is devoted to development of the Russian knowledge-intensive economy in the global context. The author undertakes his economic history analysis on the basis of multi-disciplinary synthesis and enhancement of existing theories. Chronologically the monograph covers period from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain (second half of the 18th century). With respect to Russia, statistical data analysis is conducted from the end of the 19th century onward. The author identifies the basic features, the long-term trends and the most important patterns of development of the domestic knowledge-intensive economy in the global economic system, discovers the mechanisms and ways of its influence on the development of the society, provides his suggestions on the significance of the world and national historical experience for the current stage of Russia’s modernization. The author highlights the place and role of human capital in this process. The book is targeted at researchers who explore a wide range of issues relating to Russian and global socio-economic development, practitioners involved in the processes of creation and implementation of economic policy, as well as teachers and students of economic, historical and sociological specialties.
