The model was proposed by sociologists within the organizational theory. Much attention in the article is paid to the statement of nontrivial explanatory scheme of a process of organizational development, its prog nostic capabilities, as well as scope and mechanisms that ensure the process of devel opment. The author relates the process of shaping of this model with a crisis of system models in organization theory and subsequent rejection of these ideas. The article also deals with difficulties that stimulated the emergence of this approach and with prospects of its application in management and beyond.
