Abstract

The article considers the problems of defining specific features and types of social technologies (ST). The author pursues the following objectives: first, to clarify the specific features of social technologies; second, to identify the grounds for classifying the existing types of social technologies; third, to describe the basic characteristics (functions, tasks, tools, the scope and ideological bases) of social technologies; fourth, to identify the basic features of one group of social technologies - the rationalizing social technologies (RST); fifth, to define the specifics of two extremely important, but poorly studied subtypes of the rationalizing social technologies, one of which is associated with rationalizing management activities and the other with rationalizing social relations. The first is termed here as goal-providing RST, the second - as goal-forming RST; the first employs mechanisms of goal-rationality and is used for management tasks, the second employs mechanisms of communicative rationality and is used for political tasks. Thus, the article attempts to reduce, at least partially, the chaotic condition that reigns in the theory of social technologies and is especially evident in ambiguities in interpretation of social technologies and in vague distinctions between their different types.
