Xenopobes: who are they?

Abstract

The key questions that are considered in the article are as follows: what do carriers of xenophobic attitudes represent, who are they? What do represent their antagonists? Data obtained during the 24th wave of the Russia Longitudinal Monitoring Survey (RLMS-HSE) as well as results of quality studies carried out by the Institute of Sociology (RAS) in 11 regions of Russia in 2014-2016 comprised the empirical basis of analysis. Social-demographic profiles, material, human, and social capitals, level of trust, specific structures of identities of four detached groups of respondents are analyzed. It is demonstrated that adherents of intolerant position are characterized with low level of human capital, unwillingness or ill-preparedness to investments in the human capital, and little social capital.
