The subject is the examination of the professional engineering community positions regarding the role of engineering dynasties in raising the social status of engineering profession in the Russian society. Professional (labor) dynasties were encouraged during previous periods of Russian / Soviet history. How highly in demand are they under the present conditions in the engineering profession? This issue is examined based on the research project “Engineering dynasties in Russia”, encompassing the analysis of semi-structures interviews with experts-leaders of professional organizations (associations) engineers. The following conclusion is made based on the data of the first phase of the study. Formation and reconstruction of engineering dynasties are to a lesser degree dependent on family resources, than on the demand for the profession in society. Aсcording to the experts, the main level of solving the problem of regenerating the engineering staff is the state policy in the field of economy and engineering education. The second level is interaction between technical universities and employers in labor market.
