New psychoactive substances and means of social control

Abstract

Changes in drug market all over the world are discussed: increase of “new psychoactive substances” consumption, which yield law prohibition and mislead people through neglecting negative effects. Secondary analyses of empirical data showed the difference between drug consumers in 1990s and 2010s, as well as higher motivation to drug use. The effectiveness of “vertical”/institutional and “horizontal”/people’s opinions social control are discussed. Means to strengthen society’s awareness of “new drug” problem are considered as key problem. The need to build up social solidarity on rejecting drug use is seen as the mainstream in prevention.
