Abstract

During the XX century many objects of cultural heritage of the mankind were lost because of wars, improper handling, emergency situations; the XXI century brought new risks for them. Thereby issues of restoration of library funds, finding new methods for their preservation, participation of state and civil groups in this process are raised at the global level. As an illustration of the problem scale, the article presents an overview of the UNESCO report on the loss of libraries and archives in the XX century and other studies on this topic.
