Abstract

Research and theory on socialization are discussed in the chapter. A very wide area, ranging from micro studies of interpersonal relationships to macro studies of societal structures and culture influences, is shown. The concept of socialization has two distinct meaning in sociology. One stresses the individuals’ adaptation and conformity to societal requirements, and the other emphasizes the individuals’ development. Main role is given to the sphere of education as to the leader among socialization agents.
Attention is given to the transformation of main socialization agents in modern Russia such as family, education, government, church, the Internet. Value orientations, youth definition of the key components of “success in life”, life aspirations and educational strategies, as well as changes in educational aspirations are analyzed.
Value orientations are the result of the process of socialization of young people when the norms of society interiorize in the values of the individual if these norms are not rejected. Implementation of the younger generation their life goals, especially in the field of education, which requires a serious time-consuming, usually is associated with the notion of success and the main necessary factors for achieving it. This thesis is confirmed by the results both of authors’ and others’ studies.
