Abstract

The article shows the attitude of Russians towards Azerbaijanis in the labor and non-formal spheres, the features of different population groups are analyzed depending on socio-demographic, professional characteristics. Azerbaijanis are viewed as migrants with a different Islamic culture, but at the same time Europeanized enough and now in a situation of searching for themselves between East and West. Comparing the attitude of Russians to Azerbaijanis with their attitude towards other ethno-cultural groups showed that Azerbaijanis can be perceived as possible competitors in the business sphere, and their negative attitude to them may be due to the unusualness of contacts with them as equal status partners.
