Abstract

The chapter examines the results of measuring the balance of interethnic attitudes on the all-Russian representative sample. The hypothesis was confirmed that the balance of interethnic attitudes dominating in local social environments is a relatively independent factor affecting the nature of relations to other nationalities. On the materials of the all-Russian representative sample, the widespread opinion in the public mind about the special nationalism of the youth was not confirmed. The common opinion about the lower prevalence of ethnophobia among the more educated strata of the population has not been fully confirmed either. The decline in socioeconomic status, as perceived by certain population groups, leads to an increase in hostile attitudes towards other groups, but not a positive attitude towards their own national group, i.e. with the deterioration of economic conditions, constructive patriotism degenerates into chauvinism of the dominant national group in this region.
