Abstract

The dynamics of the ethnic identity and ethnic solidarity in the post-Soviet period is considered. The conclusion is drawn that the participation of an ethnic factor in the formation of a political community carries risks only when ethnic identity (due to its susceptibility to ideological manipulation) is connected with the installations of hostility and intolerance, the rejection of the multicultural way of Russian reality. The inspiring impulse and emotional involvement necessary for the formation of a national-civic all-Russian identity are ensured by the participation of the feelings and representations that make up a complex of ethnic (ethno-cultural) identity. Sociological studies show that a person with an actualized ethnic identity is characterized by such normative attitudes as a sense of pride in their people, a willingness to help people of their nationality, a willingness to defend the honor and dignity of their people, the need to speak their own language and practice their own religion. The ethnic solidarity of Russians in the republics is closely connected with the all-Russian identity and the trust of the central government.
