Abstract

The article examines the role of religion as a social regulator and the source of social changes, it is noted that under certain socio-economic and political conditions, religiosity can exacerbate inter-ethnic tensions, right up to inter-ethnic conflict. Foreign and domestic studies on the issue of mutual influence of religion and inter-ethnic relations are being generalized. The RLMS data (24 waves) carried out an empirical analysis of the influence of the level of religiosity on inter-ethnic tensions in Russia. The data made it possible to compile a socio-demographic portrait of groups according to the level of religiosity. The tendency of a positive reaction in the group of believers and a negative reaction in the group of atheists in assessing interethnic relations is revealed, and possible explanations for these trends are given. The regression analysis conducted led to the conclusion that the level of religiosity affects the evaluation of inter-ethnic relations, but it is not determinative.
