Abstract

After 200 years since the birth of Karl Marx, his ideological legacy remains a matter of controversy - was he right or wrong? To understand Marx, his teaching and his work should be assessed on the basis of the conditions of his time. He deed not claim to create “a comprehensive concept” of development of the society, which could serve as a sort of master-key to resolve any problems once and for all. Much has changed in the world since Marx. But much remains that caused his protest, impelling him to criticize radically the bourgeois order and to reflect on changing the world, which should be more humane and fair.
