This paper, based on the results of a number of empirical studies conducted in 2017, the structural content of the identity of residents of two regions of the South of Russia was analyzed: the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria and the Rostov Region. In the work it was revealed that the ethnic component does not occupy the first place in the hierarchy of components of the multi- level identity of the modern individual in any of the groups analyzed. A comparative analysis of the models of identities formed among residents of two different ethnic entities in the South of Russia made it possible to determine that the presence of an ethnic component in the identity structure of individuals is more significant for the representatives of the national Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria than for the population living on the territory of the Rostov region.
