Abstract

This book describes how Russian citizens understand interethnic accord, relationsbetween Russians, Bashkirs, Tatars, Karelians and people of other nationalities who livein different regions of Russia: from Moscow to Kaliningrad and Yugra, from Kareliato Astrakhan, in Bashkortostan and Stavropol regions. We analyze the importance ofnationality in employment and participation in power in people’s perceptions and real life.We show attitudes of Russians, Tatars, Bashkirs to studying of ethnic languages and statelanguages in republics. We analyze factors influencing assessment of interethnic relations.Special attention is paid to religiousness of people and its importance for favorable relationsbetween people of different nationalities and religions. We consider the problem ofadaptation and integration of internal migrants arriving into foreign culture environment.We analyze reasons interfering adaptation process.
