Abstract

The article examines the significance of the interrelation between evaluations ofwork and life in modern Russia. It is based on analysis of data from the European Social Survey(ESS) 2006 and 2012, the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey (RLMS-HSE) 2002–2016, and surveys of purposively sampled workers in industrial enterprises in Russian administrative centers (2003, 2007, 2013 and 2014) and presents and assesses three models of interrelation between job satisfaction and work satisfaction. The model characterized by an excess of work satisfaction over life satisfaction was named the Russian model, which can be equated with the German model. The model with an excess of life satisfaction over work satisfaction was named the Swedish model. The results of the analysis did not reveal any major differences between workers in relation to the diagnostic models of objective characteristics. However, the differences uncovered in terms of subjective evaluations allowed for the determinationof a number of general trends. The most obvious and replicable of all the investigatedcharacteristics of the Russian model is the evaluation of work performed as being more interesting. The Swedish model is characterized by a higher level of happiness. As a rule, the social characteristics of the German model occupy a position in between the other two models. A growth in the size of the German model is observed among Russian workers living in administrative centers, and those working in industrial enterprises. The trend uncovered may be viewed as being positive.
