We analyzed the architectural appearance, names of streets, monuments, as well as some practices that potentially influence the formation of identities (such as bilingualism in signs). The common in the symbolic space is manifested in the new and historical buildings. The difference is in proportions. Khanty-Mansiysk in this regard “newer” than Ufa. The names of the streets of the two cities are mostly contain neutral and Soviet names, but in Ufa they are diluted with geographical and ethnic names, as well as in Khanty- Mansiysk by names of discoverers of the North and oil and gas professions.
