Abstract

This paper presents findings from a survey of Russian teachers on their instructional practices and attitudes towards 21st century skills. The survey sought to explore how the teachers approach the active learning paradigm and how they integrate the task of developing key competences in their teaching and instruction. Teachers’ views are compared with parental expectations for schooling. Data was gathered from a questionnaire (4500 teachers from 85 Russian regions) and focus groups with teachers (15 focus groups in 6 schools in the Moscow region), as well as a questionnaire for parents (3300 parents of school children in Moscow and the Moscow region), both administered in February — May 2018. The survey was conducted in partnership with the Russian Textbook Corporation, Moscow City University, and supported by the Sberbank’s Charitable Foundation «Investment to the Future».
