Abstract

The report analyzes the statistics of inter-ethnic marriages in Russia and its several regions, as well as data from public opinion polls, which show the different directions of the dynamics of inter-ethnic marriages in Russia. The materials of various researchers are compared with the answers received in the course of a survey conducted by the author among Russian students in Krasnoyarsk. It is concluded that in contemporary Russia they are not the key factors of assimilation, in contrast to how it was in the USSR. Polyethnic marriages in contemporary Russia, rather, should be considered as referring to the sphere of interpersonal relations expressing relations between people, regardless of their nationality. They hardly belong to interethnic relations. It seems doubtful that the inter-ethnic relations script in Russia exists in a single form.
