The beginning of the method of oral history should be sought in research relating to interviewing, and in connection with related disciplines: sociology, ethnology, political science, partly with linguistics. All this was an impulse that caused the appeal to the individual, the desire for individualization of the masses. Quite quickly a commonplace in critical literature became the discussion of the relationship between oral history and historical memory. Indeed, both Memory Studies and oral history as areas of research are interdisciplinary. The method of interview is a very difficult way, requiring great effort, awareness of a high degree of subjectivity of the researcher, so oral history by some historians is considered a very unreliable source. It is impossible not to take into account the fact that the method of oral history is very important where there are no more sources, except the evidence of human memory. Oral history allows us to study not only the factual side of the past as the human consciousness itself and its transformation. The article deals with the connection of oral history and human memory, the problem of «access» to traumatic experience, the peculiarities of narrative in traumatic experience.
