Abstract

The article presents the results of the evaluation of the program «A solid step into one’s adult life», designed to prepare orphaned girls for independent life after graduation from a lyceum or college. The program includes gender-specific topics, such as the prevention of involvement in violent relationships and sexual exploitation, the prevention of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. The purpose of the evaluation study is to assess whether the program contributes to the well-being and safety of girls in the first half year of their independent life. The evaluation study involved 30 girls who participated in the program from October 2014 to May 2016 and 30 girls who studied in the same educational institution in parallel courses, but were not participants in the program (control group). The survey was conducted 6 months after the beginning of the independent life of girls. Mathematical-statistical analysis was performed in order to detect statistically significant differences between the girls participating in the program and the control group of graduates who did not participate in the program. The study demonstrates that participation in the program has had a significant positive impact on the lives of orphaned girls compared to girls from the control group.
