Abstract

The formation of sociology in Soviet society in the mid-twentieth century took place in various geographical centers of the country from Leningrad to Novosibirsk. One of the intellectual springboards of the emergence and development of Soviet sociology was the community of Leningrad scientists, which was assigned the name of the Leningrad sociological school. However, the picture of the formation and flourishing of sociology in Leningrad is very contradictory. The actual history of Leningrad sociology testifies to the existence not of a single school, but of a number of sociological schools. Among these we note such well-known research group that is entitled to claim the status of scientific schools: the Leningrad school of empirical studies of labour and production; the Leningrad school of sociology of science; Leningrad school of history of sociology; the Leningrad school of sociology of youth, Leningrad group of learning media; the Leningrad school of sociology of family and sexuality; the Leningrad school for social research of the city; the Leningrad school of social development and planning of enterprises and regions.
