Using a structural and biographical analysis of the career paths of the Russian governors for the period from 2003 to 2013, the author comes to the conclusion that the importance of militarizing the corps of regional leaders in the indicated period is exaggerated, during this period there is no steady trend towards an increase in the number of security forces. The most interesting conclusion is the great dependence of the number of security officials on the person of the president, rather than on the procedure for taking office.
