Abstract

Digital technologies are transforming social Sciences. On the one hand, the online environment has become an integral research field: the Internet and social networks create new spaces for interaction, force us to rethink social relations, and require the formation of a new vocabulary for describing and explaining emerging phenomena and processes. On the other hand, software products help collect, organize, process, and visualize data, which is still a big challenge for social researchers today. Working with digital data requires not only new competencies and constant updating (digital literacy), but also a rethinking of the theoretical framework and methodological approaches. The main question is how changes in data and methods due to the development of digital technologies redefine the role of social Sciences and research, and how researchers influence the technological development in which the old and the new get along.
